Frequency

• Target frequency selected close to the other 10m beacons in Sweden .

Frequency accuracy:

• The drift of the stock crystal and its simple oscillator has been less than 100Hz during winter & summer. 
  The beacon is mounted indoors but the ambient temperature may vary between +10 to +35 C degrees.
• Note: While reading DX-spots (see reports listed below), reports contains frequencies anywhere between 28.290 MHz and 28.293 MHz, indicating a +/- 1.5 kHz variation of the beacon frequency. However – those reports contain local errors depending on type of receiver (USB, LSB, CW used) and frequency inaccuracy.

Beacon Transmitter, Details
The beacon transmitter is entirely homemade and built from scratch, apart from the rf power amplifier.
Previous attempts using surplus pager transmitter equipment was not successful, only resulting in bad keying, bad spurious spectrum etc. which was not acceptable as the beacon is placed in an urban area populated with many radio amateurs.

The paging equipment was discarded in favor of a dedicated CW transmitter, filtering and a good power amplifier.

• A crystal controlled Local Oscillator (LO), not temperature compensated
• A buffer amplifier, the LO is always running while the buffer amplifier is keyed
• Two driver amplifiers in series follows the buffer amp, provides 1.5Watt output.
• A commercial grade surplus MOSFET final Class-A power amplifier sets the output power to ~12W

Keying 

• Keying is done using a shaping RC-network for both on/off rise/fall timing of the buffer amplifier.

Several Low Pass Filters (LPF) are used

• First LPF between the driver amp->final MOSFET power amplifier
• Second LPF between the final MOSFET power amplifier and the antenna. 

Spurious measurements, with 15W output

• 2:nd (56MHz), 3:d (84MHz) and 4:th (113MHz) overtones are about -50dB to -60dB down.
  This is good as the beacon is located in urban area with several radio amateurs nearby.

Beacon Antenna:

• The antenna is a 1/2wave vertical antenna, 5.5m high, with additional ground radials,
• Roof mounted at ~60m ASL.

Beacon CW ID Keyer:

• PIC-based 16F-type
• Programmable via RS-232.
